Climate risk methodology

See how each climate risk figure is built

SmartResilience quantifies physical climate risk at each of your sites with a documented methodology you can export, so you can explain each number to your auditor, your board and your finance team.

Trace each site's loss figure back to its source

Each figure traces back through documented inputs, assumptions and scenario choices to its source datasets: IPCC AR6 and CMIP6 climate model ensembles. Your team can export the full methodology for your auditor's independent review.

Report exposure in the metrics your auditor recognises

Each site gets a set of loss metrics broken down by hazard, at site level and across your portfolio. You bring finance and your auditor figures in a format they already use.

Run the scenarios your disclosure already uses

You supply the exposure data, from site locations to asset values and revenue, and select the emissions pathways and time horizons that match your existing scenario analysis. Projections run for any year to 2100.

Explain what changed between disclosures

Consultancy climate reports are often refreshed only every one to two years. SmartResilience reviews its hazard data twice a year and records each update in an auditable change log. When a figure moves from one year to the next, you can show your auditor whether a data update or a change in your portfolio caused it.

3,500+

Sites in 50+ countries use SmartResilience to quantify and manage climate risk.

SmartResilience won both Risk Management Technology of the Year and Risk Management Product of the Year.

Every metric auditable and traceable

Asset-level loss metrics

Each site gets annual average loss and the cost of a 1-in-200 year event for flood, wind and wildfire, including business interruption, so you report exposure in metrics your auditor and insurers already recognise.

Client-defined exposure inputs

You supply site locations, asset values and revenue, and you can agree your own building types and damage curves, so the loss estimates reflect how your sites actually operate.

Scenario and horizon configuration

Each assessment runs under low, middle and high emissions scenarios from the IPCC's Shared Socioeconomic Pathways across near, mid and long-term horizons, and some horizons can be matched to the ones you already report on.

Data provenance and methodology export

Each figure traces back to its source data and method, from CMIP6 and CORDEX climate projections to ERA5 and CERRA wind data and WRI Aqueduct water stress, and your auditor can review the full methodology.

Documented risk-management process

SmartResilience documents the inputs, scenarios, prioritisation logic and monitoring cadence behind your assessment, ready for the risk-management section of your disclosure.

Disclosure outputs that reconcile with the model

SmartResilience drafts the IFRS S2 aligned physical-risk disclosure narrative from the same model outputs, so your disclosed figures reconcile with the platform. Statutory accounting and assurance stay with your team and your auditors.

"Surprisingly painless to roll out to 53 countries over 6 weeks. The integrated alerting has been particularly valuable in engaging our global sites, ensuring the benefits of proactive climate risk management are realised across the organisation."

Choose where to start

SmartResilience offers two products on one platform.

Climate Assessments

  • SmartResilience calculates site-level AAL, PML and CVaR under multiple emissions scenarios.
  • Projections run for any year to 2100.
  • The platform produces audit-ready outputs for IFRS S2 aligned, CSRD, ASRS and UK SRS reporting.
  • Each adaptation measure comes with its cost of risk avoidance from an engineering library.

Monitoring and Early Warning

  • Monitoring runs 24/7 across multiple hazards.
  • Tiered alerts reach facilities, operations and risk teams by SMS, email and dashboard.
  • Site-level runbooks tell your team what to do before the event arrives.
  • Each alert and response is logged as an evidence trail.

SmartResilience supports the physical-risk elements of these disclosures. UK SRS S2 is currently voluntary. Organisations should take independent legal and accounting advice on their specific reporting obligations.
