At SmartResilience, we exist to help organisations adapt to climate change — and we believe this responsibility begins with us. As a remote-first, cloud-native company rooted in purpose and science, we embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles across everything we do.

Our ESG and Net Zero strategy is more than a policy — it’s a commitment to lead with transparency, integrity, and measurable impact.

🔋 Environmental Stewardship: On Track for Net Zero by 2030

Climate change is not a future risk — it’s a present reality. At SmartResilience, we are on a clear path to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030, a milestone that aligns with our leadership in climate adaptation.

Key Actions:

  • Net Zero Commitment: We are members of the SME Climate Hub and have aligned with the UN’s Race to Zero campaign (pending approval).

  • Baseline Established: Using 2019 data, we measured a footprint of 10,614 kg CO₂e — the majority in Scope 3 emissions such as business travel and supply chain services.

  • Reduction Focus: We are prioritising reductions in national travel, procurement, and service use by shifting to sustainable suppliers and greener travel options.

  • Offset Strategy: Residual emissions will be offset via verified, high-impact projects aligned with our climate resilience goals.

  • Digital Infrastructure: We exclusively use cloud services in 100% renewable-powered regions (e.g., AWS Europe) and promote energy-efficient devices.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Social Responsibility: A Remote-first Company with a Human-first Culture

We recognise that sustainable progress relies on people — their ideas, their wellbeing, and their potential. Our remote-first model is designed not just for flexibility, but for inclusion and access.

Our Commitments:

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible working hours and locations ensure autonomy, performance, and mental wellbeing.

  • Diversity & Inclusion: We strive to build a team reflective of the world we serve — through inclusive hiring and ongoing learning.

  • Mentorship & Opportunity:

    • We partner with the University of Essex, offering internships to students from diverse backgrounds.

    • We mentor students through the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP), championing early-career talent in engineering and climate tech.

🧭 Ethical Governance: Integrity in Every Decision

Good governance is foundational to long-term sustainability. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest ethical and compliance standards.

Governance Measures:

  • Zero Tolerance for Corruption: All employees receive mandatory anti-corruption training.

  • Transparent Communication: We maintain clear, consistent dialogue with all stakeholders via our digital platforms.

  • Sustainable Procurement: We choose suppliers who demonstrate strong environmental credentials, ethical labour standards, and circular economy principles.

  • Travel Policy: All business travel must be essential, virtual-first, and offset if undertaken — with low-carbon modes like rail preferred over air.

🛤️ Our Route to Net Zero

Our Net Zero roadmap is rigorous, science-based, and publicly accountable.

  • Emissions Inventory: Full Scope 1, 2, and 3 assessments with data from 2019 onwards.

  • Reduction by Design: By remaining cloud-native and remote-first, we limit our physical footprint and energy use by default.

  • Carbon Removal: For non-eliminable emissions, we invest in high-integrity offset and removal solutions — especially those with co-benefits for climate resilience.

  • Progress Tracking: We use carbon accounting platforms to measure, validate, and report progress to stakeholders and external bodies on an ongoing basis.

🤝 Partnership and Engagement

We know that building a resilient, sustainable future requires collective effort. That’s why we work closely with:

  • Clients to integrate adaptation and emissions reduction into their supply chains.

  • Partners and suppliers who share our values.

  • Employees through continuous education and engagement.

Together, we’re not just reacting to climate risk — we’re actively shaping a resilient future.
